THE GREAT DIVIDE -BELGICA

THE GREAT DIVIDE
BELGICA
A Belgian Style IPA
The Brewery:
The Roman name for the Low Counties - is a marriage of the best in American and Belgian brewing traditions. Belgian pilsner malt, a generous amount of American and European hops and a unique Belgian yeast strain combine to give Belgica big notes of citrus and spice, creating a lively concoction perfect for spring in the Rockies - or the Ardennes. 7.2% ABV
Professional Opinion:
The Great Divide Belgica poured a light honey color with a very small quickly dissipating foamy white head followed by light lacing.
The nose isn't over the top but does touch on a proper Belgian beer with a hint of tangy, spicy dirty yeasty is the best way to put it.
The flavor has a proper Belgian yeasty note of spice , fruity pear and dirty yeast that all Belgian lovers crave. Followed with a white peppery, floral clove, lemony citrus backed by a decent malty backbone from the hops that finishes with a fruity sweetness.
Personal Opinion:
I have had there Hades when Creepy Dylan rolled over for the Xmas Sixer with this beauty of a beer. Not being disappointed its almost the same beer with a bit of Hops added. I prefer this one out of the bottle, I think it ours rather poorly and the nose can be a bit much at times. I would say if comparing this beer to a Duvel or something of that nature - well, you cant! But if you were then for what it is, slightly lighter than most Belgian beers its a drinker not a sipper. The lack of yeast is what throws me off. Most Belgian beers are bottle conditioned which helps create that funky yeast flavor that we all like so much. The yeasty dirt wasn't apparent in the bottle and the body of the beer wasn't there backing my speculation.
Great Beer for what it is, very good representation of a beer that tried soooo hard to be Belgian and it shows, maybe over compensating in flavor instead of body. This Beer gets a solid B *** three stars
Happy BDay Son

I ment to post this yesterday but I hit "save now" instead - anyhow, yesterday was my sons bday, After Whompy left and my son woke up from his nap the Grandparents came over with a cake and we celebrated. Had to keep it low key since my wife and my son are sick, but next week - SEA WORLD !
