Kung Fu Thursday

What I like about this modern version of the Wudang Eight Immortal sword is not the form and believe me this guys intention couldnt fight its way out of a paper bag and his sword control is atrocious, but the forms freedom of movement that"OLD" Wudang Kungfu would always posses and non others didnt. In the past many would see "old" Wudang Kungfu and think it was a drunken style in which how the whole Bullshit Drunken style emerged and ruined many people's foundation for proper Kungfu skill.
Anyhow, just reminds me of some stuff I practice and out of all the modern Wudang Kungfu hoopla coming out of China this is one of my favorites due to the authenticity of the movement.

Anyhow, Its fun to watch, mostly if your a Kungfu nerd or practitioner (all the same yeh).

Stats: 6.5% ABV - 60 IBU - 14 SRM
2X the amount of Cascade & Centennial hops gives this cask conditioned IPA an intense floral and zesty hop character.

Ballast Point is always doing something that leaves me speechless - guess where Im going for a pint at 2:00pm after work manana...

THE BEST BEER

After the Great Britain Beer Festival, in London, all the brewery presidents decided to go out for a beer. The guy from Corona sits down and says, "Hey Señor, I would like the world's best beer, a Corona."

The bartender dusts off a bottle from the shelf and gives it to him. The guy from Budweiser says, "I'd like the best beer in the world, give me 'The King Of Beers', a Budweiser."

The bartender gives him one. The guy from Coors says, "I'd like the only beer made with Rocky Mountain spring water, give me a Coors."

He gets it. The guy from Guinness sits down and says, "Give me a Coke."

The bartender is a little taken aback, but gives him what he ordered. The other brewery presidents look over at him and ask, "Why aren't you drinking a Guinness?"

The Guinness president replies, "Well, if you guys aren't drinking beer, neither will I."

Cask Thursday at Karl Strauss

July 22nd - Amarillo Dry-Hopped Red Trolley
Stats: 5.8% ABV - 17 IBU - 30 SRM
1 lb of Amarillo hops per cask gives Red Trolley a tangerine-like hop flavor and aroma without adding bitterness.

Over the years Karl Strauss has been a part of my life. For one thing they have been in San Diego since 1989 which in my opinion creating a GIANT footprint within the micro scene for many trying to replicate over the years.
Starting off as mainly a German style beer house and remaining that way for years - until recently becoming a major player within the "BIG BEER" world. I personally have always thought the Karl Strauss labels such as "Red Trolley", "Endless Summer", Karl Amber were always decent session beers. Easy to drink, nothing to complain about and always happy to have a pint, mostly in the days when there was hardly anything else to drink in San Diego worth talking about. But now, ol' Paul Segura "the Brew master" has come up with the help of his colleagues some fantastic Specialty Beers as well Seasonals that will blow your socks off. Not only they making great beer they are making beer that you cannot and will not forget deservingly being major contenders as being some of the best beers available in this HUGE micro scene.

Cask Thursday - Ballast Point

Every Thursday Ballast Point Tries to have a popular, New or Specialty beer on Cask for the general public and usually in two different locations.
This Thursday is one of my favorites - Sculpin IPA - mother!
A very BIG IPA that is high in alcohol but easy to drink, Fruity, not too malty and a beer that is putting ballast Point on the map throughout the U.S.. Although Sculpin in my opinion isn't the best served out of a cask, it is something to try and cherish to say the least - I will do a write up on this beer very soon!

Negra Modelo Cervesa

The Brewery:
Classified as a Munich dunkel, first brewed in Mexico by Austrian Immigrants in 1926.
To achieve its unique taste, Negra Modelo uses a greater quantity of malt, the finest hops, special yeast and the purest water. It is a delicious, creamy, full-flavored dark brew with a pleasant malt aroma and dry hop flavor that has a smooth mellow taste.
4.2% alcohol by weight, 5.4% alcohol by volume, 0 grams of fat, 170 calories per 12-oz bottle.


Professional Opinion:
Negra Modelo pours a dark brown copper color with a very short white head that dissipates rather quickly leaving a small white film on top of the beer for the life of the glass with little or no lacing. The beer itself has very low carbonation that is quite normal for this style of beer.
The nose has a very soft aroma of malts and caramel with a touch of alcohol. The flavor is of a deeply malted beer with citrus notes of hops backed by a very sweet but soft pallet.
A very easy drinking beer, great with food and when your down in Mexico a quite refreshing beverage to the discriminate beer drinker.


Personal Opinion:
Negra Modelo has always been on top of my list when I used to frequent Mexico quite a bit, but I always found myself diving into Tecate, Pacifico and Bohemia leaving the Negra Modelo for a sipping treat with dinners.
Although it started out Austrian it has little ruminants of that and to call it a Dunkel just pisses me off. Im afraid to say this beer has lost its heritage but on a positive note created its own. Pretty good, I highly recommend it if there is nothing else to drink that resembles a Craft or a proper Import, never the less a Dos Equis Amber suits my pallet a bit better and I find myself thinking about one even as I drink this Mexican "Munich Dunkel".
